1, 15 page paper down. I should feel more accomplished. But I have another equally important assignment due in about 2 hours. And it's not done yet. I also have another 15 page paper due tomorrow. If my body refuses another all-nigher then I do have Thursday to complete it. Martinson takes late papers, so it might be a point or 2 lower for being late, but that might be the better option than trying to kill myself over another 15 page paper.
If I didn't have all this extra SGA/Dec. Graduation stuff going on I would have more time and motivation to get this paper done. Luckily I did have an epiphany this morning, as I walked to class. (as you might have seen via Kasey's facebook status) I realized that there are 2 days of classes left, and this semester is going to end, with or without me, so I better get on board.
I have another funny story about a poor girl and her dress. I'll save that for another time. In the mean time I have a final project due, that I need to work on in class.
Because that's just how I roll.

So this is what it feels like to be a grown up...
Awake. 6:24am. I've already showered, taken cold medicine, and effectively woken up. I'm waiting for my hair to dry so I can straighten it.
I don't usually do mornings like this. I knew today was going to be special though because of Celebrating Student Achievement Day. I can't help but want to look my best, and I knew that was going to require getting up earlier.
What I didn't really realize was how excited/freaking out I am about this. You see I didn't just wake up at 6 and get a move on things. No, no that would be far too normal. I woke up at 3:17am completely convinced it was around 6am and time to get up at at em'. Only I knew it seemed far to dark outside for 6am. That when I checked the clock. Crap. I laid back down and faded in and out of alertness for about 2 hours, before deciding to give it up and just take my shower.
Apparently, this is my new Christmas morning. I guess I'm just excited to make the whole President thing official. I feel so adult like. Up and blogging before my roommate is even awake. On a related note, I wish I could turn on CNN and watch the news and I finish getting ready. That would complete the whole grown-up feeling...actually about 20mins after catching all the same headlines I'd probably turn to saved by the bell, or fresh prince of bell-air. So much for adulthood.
Regardless I'm excited about today. Time to get my hair straightening on.
I wonder if Obama woke up at 3am on the day of his inauguration....

A letting to an annoying professor. aka venting.
Dear annoying Professor,
You are arrogant, rude, presumptuous, judgmental and your accent and voice is grating and obnoxious (and I say this, having family from Long Island). You talk too much shit about the college I love, and pay a great deal of money to attend. Interestingly enough, some of that money is used to pay your salary. If you have this many problems with this institution, then please feel free to peace out.
I'm writing you because of some more bullshit you spewed today. You are obviously power hungry, but you don't have the ambition to do anything greater in your life. You won an Emmy in 1980, and while that's awesome you obviously have no desire to do greater things now, which consequently hurts my education. But, when a student mistakenly calls you "Dr. (&*^%%!#!" don't go in to some crap monologue about how even if you got your PhD you wouldn't go by Doctor (&$@#@*!^. That's bull and you know it. As one classmate put it, if you had your PhD you would make your kids call you Dr. dad.
What really irked me was went on to belittle the rest of the faculty here at this school that put in all that extra time and work to earn that extra degree. "Because they aren't real doctors as we know them, ya know like medical guys..." you believe that they shouldn't use the term doctor. UHM what?! Really!? I know you have "life experience" and that I do appreciate that about you. But just because people listen to you less, and because you can't get Dept. Head because your dumb ass doesn't have a PhD, that is no reason to knock down all the other professors that got their PhD. I mean PhD doesn't mean perfect, or even a good professor. But at least those professors, for the most part, are professional and respect what they do. Unlike yourself.
Don't get me wrong, you should be proud if you earned a PhD. But my point is I know you. Don't try and tell me you wouldn't be boastful (and even more arrogant) and make your classes refer to you as Dr. *^$#&(^$, because you totes, would.
Also, those same professors with PhDs, don't really, really, really suck and impersonating people. Stop doing "funny voices." You really blow at them.
I appreciate your knowledge of the world of communications, however I don't appreciate your snarky attitude. I'm quite glad my classes with you are numbered 3. It's actually 8, but you are going to be gone for 5, for a "conference" in Las Vegas. Glad to see my tuition dollars hard at work.
jackass.
Best of luck not screwing up the futures of students,
D-Money.

TV makes everything seem so simple.
I love spinach and artichoke dip. I am making it my mission to try every single spinach and artichoke dip I can get my hands on. So far the best has been at Brio, that new Italian place by Crabtree. It's amazing.
But at the same time I've gathered a new super appreciation for cooking (it's probably from all the food network I've been watching.) And I love to cook. So while at home, with access to a full kitchen, I decided to make my own spinach and artichoke dip.
After finding a recipe that seemed tasty and simple enough, I got my ingredients and headed home to make it happen. The main reason I am writing this blog though is because on of the key ingredients caught me off guard. Artichokes. Specifically, canned artichokes.
I opened the can, and it smelled...strange. Not bad, certainly not good though. I became concerned about all the dip I had eaten up to this point. Then, the recipe called for me to chop the artichoke heart. "Okay, no problem" I thought. I grabbed one and I realized as I cut this thing in half, that this is probably what a real heart feels like. It was squishy in an awkward and uncomfortable way. But sort of slimy and just...weird. Needless to say I chopped fast. I also realized that I could never, ever be a doctor if that's what a heart feels like. Sorry, J.D.
As I mixed the rest of the ingredients together I though. "WHO COMES UP WITH THIS?!"
As the light green/borderline brown flakes of the artichoke heart swirled around the bright green spinach and light cheeses, I could not understand how someone could look at all of these elements and think "DELICIOUS!!!" That's when I realized I am not creative enough to be a chef. Sorry, Bobby Flay.
It's not done yet, but I'll be sure to tell you how it turns out.
Bon Appetit!

Good thing I don't need a career or anything.
I received this email today from the Career Center here on campus.
Two Excellent Internship
1) NC Office of the Governor
- A Communications Intern for Summer 2009
Media, PR, writing press releases, event planning, database management, research and investigate community issues..............
The internship will provide students an opportunity to gain knowledge of media strategy and constituency work, develop better communication, writing and organizational skills. Students also gain an understanding of media and public relations in a government setting.
Great Opportunity!
...if you know me...how awesome does that sound?!?
That's a perfect way to get my foot in the door, get involved with the media and politics. Everything I want! "Great Opportunity," you ain't kiddin'!!!
yeah. about a month too late. I already accepted the GSE job and I am excited about it, but this would have been awesome too.
Dear Career center, get it together. In the meantime, I will still think of you as relatively useless.
In other news. 40 minutes until Easter Break. Sooo many weights have been lifted off my shoulders so I can enjoy this break. Didn't find the crook, but it's ok. Started my speech, got the reading I need for MME. The end of the semester crunch is creeping up on me and pushing me to get my work done, if for no other reason except that I legit don't have time to do it.
I feel really motivated lately. My plans for my first night home include: Copious amounts of Laundry, cooking something delish for dinner, vegging on the couch and maybe even working on my speech for Public Speaking. I know you all read that last part and said "chyeah right.." and you could be correct. But it's due Tuesday, and I want to be ready for this one, plus it's about DC so, basically, lovesit. Don't judge me. Let's just hope that motivation doesn't decide to stay in Mo.Co. I need to get it together for reals.
I forsee a super great weekend. Friends, family, food (I can eat meat tomorrow!!), and Northpark. Nothing could be better.
Be on the look out for photoblogs over the break.
Happy weekend!

Not necessarily in this order.
Today's blog is for me as much as it is for you.
My todo list is falling to pieces. I want to get as much of the following done before easter break.
1. FIND THAT STUPID STICK.
2. Complete the SGA exec. board for next year (1 person away. meeting at 2.)
3. Write Amirah a check for N.O. w/ 2010
4. Write a check for my Crook shirt....even if we don't find it. BUT WE WILL!
5. Catch up on Modern Middle East homework and start processing that final and paper
6. Start my final speech for speech writing.
7. SS stuff.
8. Pack.
I've found my life in an increasing state of disarray. And I hate it. I'm too OCD for this. I need structure and routine. I feel like a lot got push back because of Top Girls (which was AMAZING. btw). I was also thinking about how I function better with a schedule and routine. With Top Girls my life was faily consistant. Now that it's over it is as if the stage/ground has been ripped out from under me and I'm just flailing and kicking trying to stay in the air.
Easter Break will catch me if I can't make it. But this is hopefully a note to myself and the swift kick in the butt I need to get it in gear.
After crook, and meetings. It's homework time.
Oh, hey LONG day.

My professor says "um" a lot.
I just had to search Al-Qaeda to follow along in Modern Middle East. If I wasn't already on some CIA watch list, I am now. On the plus side my professor won't think I'm an idiot.
It's a busy week. So much to do. And all of it will be done under gray skies. I'm so over rain and over cast. Another note to the sun:
Dear Sun, I'm not sure if you realize it, but this is not London, nor Seattle. It's the south. Get with it and and start shining. You are just being mean now. We will not be friends until you come back out.
Moving on. Speaking of sun I am ready for summer. I'm tired of learning. I'm ready for a new routine. I'm ready for GSE, and summer nights and friends and fun, and free time. OH the free time!
I was thinking about it today and how lovely it will be to just have time. I can use it to cook, new delicious things and practice cooking for the new apartment(!) But mostly, I want to read. I want to get Time weekly and scour over books. I feel like my knowledge is dwindling. ...then again that probably isn't helped by writing blogs and not paying attention in class. ah well.
But I want to read. Lots about current events. The economy. I want to read about history. I need to get back on my political game. I feel like I'm out of some weird loop about politics. Kasey would say thats because I didn't take an internship, and she's probably right, but then again she's never right. Personally, I think it's because of all the crap that is pushed on me in my political science classes. Ironic, eh? I still have a stack of books that I need and want to read. I miss words on a page, that isn't theory or definitons. I need a story. I'm taking suggestions as well.
I want it now. But it's about a month away. Break down: 5 news paper articles, 4 days of Top Girls (COME SEE IT!), 4 SGA Interviews, 3- 15 page papers (yeah. that's right.), 1 speech/presentation, 1 days to sign up for classes for senior year (AHHH!), 1 CROOK (I am going to kill them over these clues), 1 day of student achievement.
Bring it.
final note: girls who carry around dry erase markers in class confuse me. I'm all about being prepared, but that seems like too much.
